David DeBoer, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. DeBoer’s medical education was at Vanderbilt University, where he earned a medical doctorate and a master’s degree in biomedical engineering. After finishing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Dr. DeBoer also completed a fellowship under Dr. Michael Christie at Vanderbilt. He co-founded Southern Joint Replacement Institute in 1999 with Dr. Christie.
David DeBoer, MD is the Joint Replacement Research Program Director for Sarah Cannon Research Institute and Chief Medical and Information Officer for Orthopedics at Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). His research focuses on improving the outcome of joint replacement surgery and the biomechanics of the hip and knee joints. He is currently the chairman of the Clinical Best Practice Committee on Joint Replacement Surgery for the 180 hospitals in the HCA Healthcare network.
He is a member/ fellow of American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons, and several local and regional orthopedic associations where he has contributed significantly to the local orthopedic community. He has been on multiple design teams of commercial hip and knee implants and is regularly invited to industry events to present and train new surgeons. He has multiple US patents and has published close to 40 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has been cited around 2000 times and has a h-index of 17.
Outside of work, he enjoys outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, boating and golf. He is also heavily involved in the mission work of the Walk Strong Foundation.
