Mr. Akash Sharma is a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon, working at the Internationally renowned Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, U.K, specialising in Robotically Assisted Knee Replacement Surgery. He is chair of the Modern Interventions Group and is part of the select working group formulating national guidelines for primary TKA.
He qualified with a Distinction in Clinical Practice from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London in 2007 and undertook Basic Surgical Training in London and Oxford. His higher surgical training was completed in the West Midlands, on the Birmingham Rotation, and obtained his FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) in 2016. Advanced knee fellowships were completed at the highly competitive internationally recognised Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford and Nottingham University Hospitals.
Mr. Sharma uses the latest technologies and advancements in orthopaedics to deliver the best surgical outcome for patients and is one of the largest contributors to the RACER trial on robotic technology in total knee replacements, funded by the National Institute of Health Research.
He has lectured at the British Orthopaedic Association, Computer Aided Orthopaedic Society and British Association for Surgery of the Knee for the use of robotic technology in his practice and regularly trains other consultants, Nationally and Internationally, wanting to learn how to perform robotically assisted knee replacements.
