Dr. Xavier Cassard currently works at the Clinique des Cèdres in Toulouse, France, where he is specialized in Knee surgery. Alongside his particular interest in joint arthroplasty, he is also experienced in arthroscopy, sport medicine and ligament reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Cassard’s specific fields of interest are rapid recovery and outpatient surgery. He developed in collaboration with CAPIO Group a specific pre- and post-operative clinical pathway. This global approach is called RRAC in France and was inspired by ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) promoted by Henrik Kehlet. RRAC includes pre-operative patient coaching, improved pain management protocols, early mobilization and careful patient’s monitoring, which allows TKA to be performed in day-surgery.
The potential benefits of a comprehensive outpatient protocol for TKA include fewer complications, improved outcomes, and increased patient satisfaction. It will have a high-level economic impact in a close future.
In the past years he was a faculty member at several meetings dedicated to this topic in Europe.
